30 Days to CAT 2026: Last-Mile Strategy, the 1-Question Percentile Jump and Non-CAT Exams (NMAT, SNAP, XAT, IBSAT)

CATKing is a Mumbai-based MBA entrance exam coaching company founded by Sumit Singh, offering preparation for CAT, XAT, NMAT, SNAP, CET, GMAT, and GRE through online and offline classes. With exactly 30 days to go for CAT 2026 on November 29, 2026, some of you are preparing well and some feel the exam is not going right. CATKing's plan for the final month is simple: fix your accuracy, move up one question per section, align with your admit card slot, and keep the other MBA exams in hand.

How Should You Plan the Last 30 Days Before CAT 2026?

Start with your mindset. Print a photo of your dream business school, put it in front of your study table, and write "99 percentile plus" on it. Do not think small. Manifestation may or may not work, but it keeps you motivated. The Mumbai-based mentors at CATKing say it is fine to feel scared: their own CAT preparation also felt like it would not happen, and the results still came. Just keep believing in yourself.

What should you do when the CAT admit card is released?

The CAT admit card is expected on November 4. Once it is out, you will get more serious. Your slot could be 8:30 AM, 12:30 PM or 4:30 PM, and you must write the paper at that time. Take your mocks at exactly that hour. If you feel sleepy in the morning, you will not be alert in the exam either.

What is the CATKing Diwali Super Mock?

The Diwali Super Mock is a free All-India mock on November 8, prepared by IIM Indore alumni with a touch of CAT 2025. Nearly 15,000 to 18,000 students take it every year, and CATKing expects more than 15,000 again this year. Take it at your admit card slot time.

CATKing's team also writes the actual CAT, and CATKing goes live on YouTube with the analysis after each slot.

Accuracy vs Attempts: How Do You Improve Accuracy in 30 Days?

Many students have a problem with accuracy, and many have a problem with attempts. CATKing's advice is to fix your accuracy rate now. You will not take it from 70 to 90 percent in a month, so decide where you stand and fix your silly mistakes.

What is the Scavenger strategy for CAT?

About 80 percent of test-takers get lost inside the paper. The Scavenger rule: find 1 easy RC, 1 easy DILR set and just 4 or 5 Quant questions, solve them, and come out. This is the bare minimum, and about 80 percent of the roughly 3 lakh test-takers are not able to do it.

How do you build a Silly Mistakes Notebook?

The only way to improve accuracy is to make a silly mistakes notebook. In CATKing's open survey after the exam, 65 to 70 percent of students say every year that they could have solved 6 to 7 more questions. A student who calculates 2 to the power 4 as 8 will make that mistake again, so write every such mistake down this week, along with the topics you need to revise.

How Many Questions Do You Need for 80, 85, 90, 95 and 98 Percentile?

The numbers below come from CAT 2025 scores of nearly 43,000 students who used the CATKing score calculator. This is not RTI data.

An 80 percentile is equal to just 12 questions right. Last year's paper was slightly on the difficult side. Across the last 5 to 10 years, no paper needed more than 4 or 5 correct questions per section for this. Reaching 80 to 85 percentile is about selection: with decent preparation you are good to go.

What is the 1-question jump rule?

Every week, move up by one question in each section. If you are at 4, go to 5. If you are at 5, go to 6. If you are at 6, go to 7. One more correct question per section jumps you from 80 to 85, 85 to 90 and 90 to 95 percentile. Last year the topper numbers were around 10 per section, so CATKing suggests that toppers aim for 11-11-11.

Which Quant and DILR Topics Should You Revise Now?

CAT 2026 will have 68 questions, and TITA questions are expected to increase to nearly 20 to 22. CATKing will release an expected-paper video. Meanwhile, about 7 to 8 Quant questions can come from the following topics, roughly 2 from each.

Topic

What to Practise

Time and Work

One person building a house with bricks while another demolishes it, and pipes filling and emptying a tank

Time, Speed and Distance

Relative speed, people running on circular tracks, trains and, sometimes, boats and streams

Quadratic Equations

Sum of roots and product of roots

Simple and Compound Interest

Investment questions: a person doing a SIP, a bank FD and a property purchase

Profit and Loss

Successive discounts

DILR

Scheduling, Routes and Networks, and Games and Tournaments

For DILR, read our last minute DILR guide.

Why Should You Keep Non-CAT Exams in Hand?

CATKing's advice is simple: when you have already studied, write the other exams too. CATKing's mentor has 17 years of teaching experience, and a student who has studied for 6 to 8 months and writes 4 or 5 exams will crack at least one of them. Do not save money on exams: if you are ready to pay lakhs in fees or take a loan, you should be ready to spend a few thousand rupees on forms. Read our guide on which MBA exam to attempt in 2026.

NMAT: Is it worth taking for NMIMS Mumbai?

  • Cutoff: 209 is the NMIMS Mumbai cutoff, which is public and equal to about a 62 percentile.

  • Package: the average package is about 24 to 25 lakh rupees, and the highest is 41 lakh rupees.

  • Batch: the batch has sections A to G of about 60 students each. The big batch means big opportunities.

  • Top students: the average package of the first 240 students is comparable to IIM Indore and IIM Lucknow.

  • Forms: NMAT and NMIMS have separate forms, and the deadline is October 31.

  • Other NMAT schools: SDA Bocconi (with a semester in Milan), Great Lakes Gurgaon and SOIL Gurgaon.

SNAP: Which Symbiosis schools should you target?

SNAP is the easiest exam of the season, with 3 attempts and no normalisation concept to worry about. It has 60 questions in 60 minutes. Scoring 40 to 45 gives roughly a 98 percentile, and the best of your attempts counts.

Symbiosis School

What Stands Out

SIBM Pune

Average package of about 27 to 28 lakh rupees, highest 75 lakh rupees, batch of about 240

SCMHRD

Average package of about 38 lakh rupees, not only an HR school

SIDTM

Hard-core technology management

SSBF

Finance, including the CFA level track

SIBM Bangalore

Finance and tech, based in Electronic City

SCIT

Analytics and AI, with a new AI course

NMIMS takes only the first NMAT attempt, so for schools of this level CATKing recommends using all 3 SNAP attempts. Pick one finance school and one or two technology schools from these six. SIBM and SCMHRD are a no-brainer.

XAT: What should you know before December 6?

  • Deadline: December 6.

  • Extra programmes: pay just 200 rupees more per XLRI programme to apply to the others.

  • Programmes: BM at Jamshedpur and Delhi, and HR at Jamshedpur only.

  • Cutoffs: XLRI Jamshedpur cutoffs are much lower than CAT. A non-engineer female at around 92 percentile can get an HR call.

  • Placements: averages of about 30 to 31 lakh rupees and a highest of 1 crore across both campuses.

  • Other schools: IMT Ghaziabad, LBSIM, TAPMI and GIM Goa.

IBSAT: Is IBS Hyderabad a good backup?

IBSAT is an easy, speed-based exam with 140 questions in 120 minutes, and you can give it from home. The form costs 1,800 rupees. The first IBSAT is on December 5 and 6, with a December 1 deadline, and an online mock on November 21. IBS Hyderabad has a highest package of 40 lakh rupees. The batch is large, around 1,000 students, with an average of 10 to 12 lakh rupees, but the first 240 students have an average package above 20 lakh rupees.

How Does CATKing's IIM Indore-Pattern Mock Series Help?

CATKing has released 10 mocks on the IIM Indore pattern from October 11. They include a paper similar to CAT 2025, a paper similar to CAT 2024, and an actual IIM Indore paper reformatted into a 2-hour format. If you are confused about where you stand, take them.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Last 30 Days Before CAT 2026

What should you do in the last 30 days before CAT 2026?

Fix your accuracy, build a Silly Mistakes Notebook, practise the Scavenger strategy, align your mocks with your admit card slot, and keep other MBA exams in hand. CATKing's mentors say the next 30 days can change the next 60 years of your life, so give them everything.

When is the CAT 2026 admit card released?

The CAT admit card is expected on November 4. Once it is out, you will know your slot: 8:30 AM, 12:30 PM or 4:30 PM. You have to write the paper at the time you are allotted.

Why should you align your mocks with your CAT slot?

If you feel sleepy at 8:30 in the morning, you will not be alert on exam day either. Once you know your slot, take your mocks at exactly that time so that your body is trained for those two hours.

What is the CATKing Diwali Super Mock?

It is a free All-India mock on November 8, prepared by IIM Indore alumni with a touch of CAT 2025. Nearly 15,000 to 18,000 students take it every year, and CATKing expects more than 15,000 again this year.

What is the Scavenger strategy in CAT?

Scan the section for the easy questions instead of getting lost in a hard set. Aim for 1 easy RC, 1 easy DILR set and just 4 or 5 Quant questions. That is the bare minimum, and about 80 percent of test-takers fail to do it because they get lost inside the paper.

How many questions do you need to solve for an 80 percentile in CAT?

About 12 questions right after negative marking, which is 4 in VARC, 4 in DILR and 4 in Quant. CATKing says that across the last 5 to 10 years of papers, an 80 percentile has not needed more than 12 to 15 correct questions.

What is the 1-question jump rule?

Add 1 more correct question in each section every week. Going from 4 to 5 questions per section moves you from 80 to 85 percentile, 5 to 6 from 85 to 90, and 6 to 7 from 90 to 95 percentile.

How many questions give a 98 percentile in CAT?

Last year, a 98 percentile needed about 24 correct questions out of 68. That is 8 in each section. The 99 percentile came at about 10 in each section, so CATKing suggests toppers aim for 11-11-11.

What is the CATKing score calculator data based on?

It is based on CAT 2025 scores from nearly 43,000 students who used the CATKing score calculator. It is not RTI data.

What is a Silly Mistakes Notebook?

A notebook where you record every careless error, such as calculating 2 to the power 4 as 8. In CATKing's open survey after CAT, 65 to 70 percent of students say they could have solved 6 to 7 more questions. Fixing silly mistakes is the surest way to improve accuracy.

Which topics should you focus on in the last 30 days?

In Quant: Time and Work, Time Speed and Distance, Quadratic Equations (sum and product of roots), Simple and Compound Interest with investments, and Profit and Loss with successive discounts. In DILR: Scheduling, Routes and Networks, and Games and Tournaments.

How many TITA questions should you expect in CAT 2026?

CATKing expects TITA questions to increase to nearly 20 to 22 of the 68 questions in the paper.

Should you apply to NMAT along with CAT 2026?

Yes. Last cycle's NMIMS Mumbai cutoff of 209 equals about a 62 percentile on NMAT. The registration deadline is October 31, and the test window runs from November 2 to December 20, with 108 questions in 120 minutes.

How many attempts does SNAP allow and what is the format?

SNAP allows 3 attempts, on December 13, 19 and 26. It has 60 questions in 60 minutes. CATKing says scoring 40 to 45 gives roughly a 98 percentile, and the best of your attempts counts.

What is the XAT 2027 deadline?

The XAT registration deadline is December 6. After the base form, you can add other XLRI programmes for just 200 rupees each. XAT is among the hardest exams in India.

Should you write IBSAT as well?

IBSAT can be taken from home, with 140 questions in 120 minutes. The first IBSAT is on December 5 and 6, the deadline is December 1, and the form costs 1,800 rupees. There is also an online mock on November 21.
