According to NIRF 2023, DoMS IIT Madras is rated 15th in the management category. DoMS IIT Madras was founded in 2004 and provides students with postgraduate, doctorate, and other courses. These courses are offered in several fields, including quantitative finance and management. The college department, which is housed in Adyar, Chennai, collaborates with IIT Kanpur and IIM Calcutta as part of the multi-institutional Diploma program (PGPEX - VLM) for Visionary Leaders in Manufacturing.

MBA and Executive MBA are offered to students as flagship courses by DoMS IIT Madras. DoMS IIT Madras has worked with a number of businesses and institutions, including the University of Passau, the University of Tokyo, Curtin University, and others. Based on their research and publications, DoMS faculty members are highly esteemed individuals in the international research community.

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme is a two-year, full-time, seven quarter program aimed at training graduates to become capable managers. Students are provided a well-rounded learning experience in terms of management theory and actual practice. The programme involves classroom teaching, case discussions, hands-on management internship in industry and project work. The programme structure is such that students can join the industry at the same time with their peers from other business schools.

The MBA programme admits regular students with CAT score, Company Sponsored candidates, Defence Personnel, Non-Resident Indians and Foreign nationals.

EMBA Programme

The Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) at Department of Management Studies (DoMS), IIT Madras is a two-year degree programme that equips mid- career working professionals with functional foundation, integrative perspective knowledge and global leadership skills to lead a modern business organization.

EMBA is designed for blended weekend learning and enables working professionals to make strategic investment in their careers while they continue to meet their job demands.

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) at IIT Madras is a two-year, full-time, seven quarter program aimed at training graduates to become capable managers. Students are provided a well-rounded learning experience in terms of management theory and actual practice. The program involves classroom teaching, case discussions, hands-on management internship in industry and project work. The program comprises seven quarters of course work, with four quarters for first year and three quarters for second year. The program is structured in such a way that students can join the industry at the same time with their peers from other business schools.  Each quarter is usually of eight weeks duration.

The core courses in the functional areas of management - Finance, HR&OB, Information Systems, Integrative Management, Marketing and Operations - are emphasized during the third and fourth quarter. These courses also have a strong orientation towards the use of analytical tools and techniques. There are also courses in systems management as well as lab-based ones that introduce various enterprise software and techniques.

Regular Candidates

• Valid score in the Common Admissions Test (CAT) conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management.
• Graduates (or professional qualification equivalent to that of a University degree recognized by the UGC) in any discipline with first class or 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwD) earned in their degree from a recognized/reputed University.
• Final year students (of the above mentioned programme) are also eligible to apply. Such candidates, if selected, will be admitted provisionally, on the condition that they meet all requirements for the qualifying degree before the start of the program and will produce provisional certificate of completion within two months of joining the program. 
• IIT Graduates who have obtained a CGPA of 8 and above on 10 are exempted from CAT score.

Company Sponsored Candidates

• To be sponsored by their employers and forward their application through proper channel.
• Minimum work experience of two years in the sponsoring organization.
• Valid score in the Common Admissions Test (CAT) conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management.
• Graduates (or professional qualification equivalent to that of a University degree recognized by the UGC) in any discipline with first class or 60% marks (earned in their degree from a recognized/reputed University.

Defense Personnel

• Defense personnel are exempted from the national level entrance test. Should apply through respective government agencies.
• Graduates (or professional qualification equivalent to that of a University degree recognized by the UGC) in any discipline with 55% marks (earned in their degree from a recognized/reputed University.

Non-Resident Indian and Foreign Nationals

• Valid GMAT Score
• Graduates (or professional qualification equivalent to that of a University degree recognized by the UGC) in any discipline with first class or 60% marks earned in their degree from a recognized/reputed University
• Final year students (of the above mentioned programme) are also eligible to apply. Such candidates, if selected, will be admitted provisionally, on the condition that they meet all requirements for the qualifying degree before the start of the program and will produce provisional certificate of completion within two months of joining the program. 

The final placement process at the Department of Management Studies, IIT Madras witnessed participation from 32 companies to recruit MBA graduates for a variety of profiles. The recruiters were impressed by the knowledge and skillset of the participating students. In keeping with the trends of recent years, firms offering roles in Analytics, General Management and Finance made up the bigger proportion of the recruiters. 

The list of new recruiters included NTT Data, Garuda Aerospace, Forge among others. The season also witnessed several regular recruiters like P&G, McKinsey, Accenture, Cisco, Standard Chartered and Dell, reinforcing their existing long-term ties with the Department.

In 2023, the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranked the DoMS MBA program at IIT Madras 15th in the Management category. In 2022, it was ranked 10th. 

IIT Madras encourages meritorious students by providing different types of scholarships. The Institute also helps students requiring financial help with selective scholarship amounts and fee waiver. There are also some special scholarship schemes for SC, ST and female students. Some of the scholarships are given by previous alumni of the institute while others are from companies and from the Government of India. There are procedures for obtaining the scholarship and every scholarship application is thoroughly checked and verified before being approved.
